A beautifully understated pair of European vernacular chairs dating from the early to mid-20th century, handcrafted in solid elm with an elegant, sculptural silhouette. Gently curved crest rails, finely tapered rear uprights and organically shaped solid elm seats, these chairs embody the honest simplicity of rural craftsmanship The elm seat shows rich grain, colour variation and a naturally developed patina. The wood has a light, natural washed out tone. Good vintage condition, with age-related wear, minor surface marks and small imperfections consistent with age and use. A highly decorative and increasingly sought-after pair of vernacular chairs whose sculptural simplicity allows them to sit comfortably in both traditional and contemporary interiors.
