Rare side table designed by Alvar Aalto, circa 1930, distributed by Finmar
Superb condition, all original, no damage, all joints are good and strong, no wobbles. Surface has been repolished.
Original retailers metal plaque to the underside. Finmar label no longer present (the nails remain), possibly removed by the retailer.
H.G Dunn & Sons of Bromley were an established furniture retailer that was later taken over by Heals of London. In the 1930s the firm was being run by Edward Dunn, whose son, Geoffrey, was interested in, and promoted modern design, encouraging young designers. He was a member of the Council of Industrial Design from the thirties onwards, the Duke of Edinburgh's Design Award scheme and a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
